Daguerreotype

The machine makes dreams
or what it imagines dreams to be;
the machine makes paintings
but does not understand the texture of the brush,
the thickness of pigment and
peeling of paint;
The machine makes money,
and has no need for money,
the machine makes famines,
wars, pestilence, death,
The machine can make anything
but it doesn’t make mistakes.

  1. I like the buildup of this poem. The first half lulls the reader into thinking it’s about a machine attempting to perhaps be more humanlike and attempting artistry, but then suddenly twists to the machine engaging in something more practical for others, then quickly after becomes sinister.
