Formica

The Ants have won,
have squarely beaten Man,
outnumbering us by a factor of
1,600,000,000 to one –
and not a single one of them has
ever dealt with a W-2 or 1044-DIV,
and yet they have
crossed continents and oceans,
have flown through the air
long before Leonardo’s sketchings,
yes,
they’ve made their own arts of
mimicry, venom, no
less fine than our own,
have kingdoms and empires
vaster than our own,
and, perhaps,
the only thing stopping them from becoming
more like us
is well-tuned restraint.
