Mistakes Were Made

Mistakes were made in the mixing of pigment,
some slight red clay discoloration
all throughout the piece,
and mistakes were made in the preparation of the brushes,
so there’s horsehair stuck in the strokes.
Mistakes were made in the birth of the painter,
and his schooling, and his friendships and
wives,
and mistakes were made in the minds of the viewers
and the slow unraveling of their lives.
Mistakes were made, all the way down,
from the framing of the subject to the
price it was sold for,
but it seems that, as of right now,
mistakes have built something
worth admiring.
