autumn years

Yellow creeps into the canopy,
Like temples splashed with silver.
We are younger than we feel and
not as old as we suppose we are.
These are the transient hours between
work and play,
The lost moments between
lovers.
These are the years we grow impatient in our waiting,
These are the years we stop musing,
These are the last best years we’ll ever know.
