We walked beneath the streetlights, we walked beneath the stars,
We sat beside the river and watched the paddling gar,
We knew the names of secret things, we spoke of them alone,
Isolated from the world, we learned the names of home,
But the past leaves its scars, and the present rarely stays,
And the clock wound down the very last second of these days,
We parted with an embrace, but there were questions I had missed,
And when I left the last time, for the last time, we kissed.
