Traveling Steadily

We look down the road and wonder what lies at the end,
and dread, and move our feet to the march. We
can’t help the paths we travel, and we
try not to think too hard on them –
these thoughts form clots, form tumors,
and rob our peace, and smash our sleep.
We haven’t found a way off this road yet,
and the bodies are piled by the wayside, behind
and surely ahead, until someone
(not me)
dares to leap into the deep unknowns.
