A priest swings from the hickory and
the whole world knows his crimes;
a beggar wins the highest throne
and old men curse old times.
an archer misses every shot,
the pianist’s gone deaf –
a judge removed from civil life
is burning his precepts
fathers hurt their daughters and
the mothers dare not cry-
the loom is spinning swiftly now,
the rockets flying high,
threads unspooling quickly and
flinging into space,
dissolution everywhere and
a smile on every face.
