doldrums

The fathers are dead, the brides are in chains
the spring rains will come and nothing will change.
the fathers will rot, the flowers will bloom
the sun never truly endangers the gloom.
These cycles, their circles, the endless rotations
the tallest castle has flimsy foundations,
the beggar, the King, the people between,
all know less than what they’ve seen.
