Eat The Earth (4/2/2018)

eat the earth and
eat the clay
take from me each
last long day.

chew the soil, we
feast the peat,
grind the mud like
dripping meat.

to live, to last,
all new-things must
eat the earth and
eat the dust

  1. Sometimes phrases get stuck in my head, for reasons I don’t fully understand. In this case I built the entire poem out of ‘Eat the earth’, which as near as I can remember cropped up while listening to Another One Bites the Dust. It surely means something to me, but I like to leave things open to interpretation.
